Privacy Policy

Transcribe To Vault (the "Extension") is a productivity tool designed to help you summarize Udemy lectures and save them to your Obsidian vault. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in the Extension.

            The Core Principle: We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any external servers owned by the developer. All processing occurs locally on your device or directly between your device and your chosen AI/Vault providers.
        

1. Information We Access

To provide its core functionality, the Extension requires access to certain data through Chrome Permissions:

Lecture Content: The extension reads the transcript and title of the Udemy lecture you are currently watching only when you click the "Save Note" button.
Local Settings: Your API keys (e.g., OpenAI, Gemini), Obsidian folder paths, and custom prompt templates are stored locally in your browser's chrome.storage.

2. Data Usage and Third Parties

The Extension acts as a bridge. Data is only transferred in the following ways:

LLM Providers: Transcripts are sent to the AI provider you configure (Ollama, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.) for the purpose of generating a summary.
Obsidian Integration: Summarized notes are sent to your local Obsidian vault via the Local REST API plugin.

We do not have access to the data sent to these third parties. Please refer to the privacy policies of your chosen LLM provider to understand how they handle your data.

3. Permissions Transparency

activeTab: Used to extract the transcript from the current Udemy page.
storage: Used to remember your configurations and API keys locally.
downloads & host_permissions: Necessary to communicate with local services (Ollama/Obsidian) and cloud AI APIs.

4. Data Retention

Since we do not collect data, we do not retain any of your information. All settings are stored locally on your machine and are deleted if the Extension is uninstalled.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page.
